Bendix Signs Purchase Agreement with Jacobs

CLEVELAND August 3, 2015 Jacobs Real Estate Services (JRES) announced today that it has signed a purchase agreement with Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC for a nearly 60-acre site on Chester Road in Avon, Ohio.

“We are pleased that Bendix has chosen our site, and we look forward to working with such a first-class organization,” said Jim Eppele, JRES executive vice president. “With its ease of access and variety of retail, hotel and dining options nearby, Avon is well-suited to support Bendix’s present and future needs.”

Bendix is the North American leader in the development and manufacture of leading-edge active safety and braking system technologies for commercial vehicles. The move to Avon will enable Bendix to further expand its business and sustain its ability to develop solutions to meet the needs of the commercial vehicle industry.

A groundbreaking date for the new headquarters has not yet been finalized and is contingent upon final approvals from state and local entities. Bendix will continue to operate out of its Elyria headquarters until construction of the new headquarters is complete.

Cabela’s Store to Open in Avon

CLEVELAND April 23, 2015 Jacobs Real Estate Services (JRES) announced today that Cabela’s, a leading outdoor sporting goods retailer, will be opening a store in Avon. JRES will be the developer.

Cabela’s expects construction on the 81,000-square-foot store to begin later this year, and anticipates a fall 2016 opening. It will be located off Exit 153 of Interstate 90 near Chester Road.

“We are excited to be bringing a Cabela’s store to a flourishing community like Avon,” said James Eppele, executive vice president at JRES. “With close proximity to the interstate, it will be easily accessible to outdoor enthusiasts throughout Northern Ohio.”

Cabela’s expects to employ approximately 225 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees at the store. Upon opening, it will become the fourth Cabela’s store in Ohio, joining the Columbus location that opened in 2013, the West Chester store scheduled to open this fall and the Centerville store expected to open in spring 2016.

The Avon location will be built in Cabela’s new-format layout, designed to offer customers an immersive outdoor experience with log construction, stonework, a mountain replica, aquarium, dozens of wildlife displays and taxidermy mounts, hand-painted murals, vintage outdoor photos and an indoor archery range.

Additionally, the store will include a cafe, fudge shop, boat shop, gun library, bargain cave and Cabela’s Wildlife and Land Management product offering, along with thousands of quality outdoor products.

Doug Miller Appointed as New President and CEO

CLEVELAND – December 16, 2014 – The Richard E. Jacobs Group (“The Jacobs Group”) announced today that its executive vice president, Doug Miller, will succeed Jud Smith as president and chief executive officer effective January 1, 2015. Smith will continue to serve on the board of directors as non-executive chairman.

“Jud’s leadership, dedication and vision have been instrumental to the success of The Jacobs Group,” said Miller. “I look forward to working with him in this new capacity to continue the success of the Jacobs Group in the real estate industry.”

Since joining The Jacobs Group in 1978, Miller has directed development, sales and lease transactions exceeding $1 billion in value. As executive vice president, Miller has been responsible for all aspects of office and mixed-use property development, leasing and management of all Jacobs-owned and/or managed office and mixed-use structures. He is also a licensee of Jacobs Real Estate Services, an affiliate of The Jacobs Group. He began his career with The Jacobs Group as internal audit manager and later directed development efforts for peripheral land sites at Jacobs-owned properties across the country. Miller is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, International Council of Shopping Centers and Ohio Bar Association, and serves on the boards of the Downtown Cleveland Improvement Corporation and the Group Plan Commission. Senior Living Facility Planned for Avon Place

CLEVELAND – August 19, 2014 – Jacobs Real Estate Services (JRES) announced today that it has agreed to sell 32 acres of land in its Avon Place development for the construction of Rose Senior Living at Avon, a 175-unit senior living congregate care facility with 76 townhomes. 

The main facility will be approximately 190,000 square feet and act as a town center for the congregate care facility and townhomes. It will include a number of dining venues, a lounge, common areas, chapel, and recreational and fitness areas. The exterior will be extensively landscaped and provide a variety of outdoor recreation and dining areas for residents and guests. 

“With this deal for a Rose Senior Living project in place, the Avon Place development continues to gain momentum,” said Jim Eppele, JRES executive vice president. “Especially since it comes on the heels of our recent announcements of the new rehab hospital, a hospital tower, preschool, hotel and event center all underway.” 

Avon Place is a 132-acre, master-planned development located in Avon, Ohio, near I-90 and Nagel Road. It is currently home to the Cleveland Clinic Richard E. Jacobs Health Center, which has an adjacent hospital tower under construction. 

Other projects underway at the development include a 60-bed adult inpatient rehabilitation hospital built as part of a joint venture between Cleveland Clinic and Select Medical, a 116-room Residence Inn by Marriott hotel with an attached 10,000-square-foot conference center and a Primrose Schools preschool. Plans call for other related facilities, such as offices and restaurants. 

Rose Senior Living at Avon is a venture of Edward Rose & Sons, a privately held real estate development and management company established in 1921. It has forged a strategic partnership with Ecumen Associates of Minneapolis to manage the senior living portion of the business. Avon Place Expands with New Child Care Center

CLEVELAND, Ohio – August 11, 2014 – Jacobs Real Estate Services (JRES) announced today that a Primrose Schools educational child care facility will be constructed at its Avon Place development in Avon, Ohio.

The 12,000-square-foot school will be located on a two-acre site on Nagel Road, near Lear Industrial Parkway. Construction is expected to begin later this month and should be completed by early 2015. When complete, the school will have capacity for more than 200 students and will employ about 30 people.

According to a Plain Dealer story, the school’s owner, Divya Singh, chose Avon because it “was a growing area with many new families.” Avon Planning Coordinator James Piazza said in the story that, “The daycare center will be right next to the Cleveland Clinic, which is expanding. Soon there will be more than 1,000 employees in that area, including many working mothers. There are no other daycare centers close by.”

Rehab Hospital to be Built at Avon Place

CLEVELAND, OhioJune 10, 2014 – Jacobs Real Estate Services (JRES) announced today that a 60-bed adult inpatient rehabilitation hospital will be constructed at its Avon Place development in Avon, Ohio. It will be built as part of a joint venture between Cleveland Clinic and Select Medical.

The rehabilitation hospital will be located on 12 acres adjacent to the Cleveland Clinic Richard E. Jacobs Health Center, which is on Just Imagine Drive. Construction is expected to begin this summer with the goal of opening in late 2015.

Hotel to Open in Spring 2015
